Seferihisar’a UNESCO tarafından “Tsunamiye Hazır Kent” Sertifikası Verildi
Enstitümüz ile ODTÜ iş birliğinde, UNESCO Hükümetlerarası Oşinografi Komisyonu (UNESCO-IOC) desteğiyle yürütülen CoastWAVE 2.0 Projesi kapsamında gerçekleştirilen çalışmalar sonucunda Seferihisar, uluslararası ölçekte “Tsunamiye Hazır Kent” sertifikası almaya hak kazandı.
SosyalFest’26’da Deprem Bilinçlendirme Eğitimi
İstanbul Üniversitesi Beyazıt Yerleşkesi’nde 10–11 Mayıs 2026 tarihlerinde düzenlenen SosyalFest ’26 etkinliği kapsamında, Afete Hazırlık Laboratuvarı eğitmenlerimiz tarafından gezici deprem simülasyon eğitim tırı ile deprem farkındalığı ve afetlere hazırlık konularında eğitim faaliyetleri gerçekleştirildi.
Kandilli’s 115 Years of Climate Data Reinterpreted at Hackathon
The "115 Years of Kandilli’s Climate Memory: Digitization and Analysis Hackathon" was organized by the Meteorology Laboratory of our Institute and hosted by the Department of Computer Engineering at Boğaziçi University on March 6–7, 2026.
Throughout the event, participants focused on analog meteorological charts recorded at the Kandilli Observatory since 1911. The projects developed during the hackathon aimed to digitize, analyze, and visualize these significant historical datasets, bridging the gap between historical records and modern data science.
Progress Advances Toward Seferihisar’s Recognition as a Tsunami Ready Community
On 24 February 2026, within the framework of the UNESCO-IOC CoastWAVE 2.0 Project and as part of Seferihisar’s process toward recognition as a “Tsunami Ready” community, a Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) Workshop was held. The workshop was hosted by Seferihisar Municipality, coordinated by Boğaziçi University Kandilli Observatory and Earthquake Research Institute (KOERI), and conducted in collaboration with Middle East Technical University (METU).
Our institute had the pleasure of hosting an academic delegation from Tsukuba University, Japan
The meeting provided an opportunity for mutual exchange of views on potential academic and scientific collaborations between the two institutions. Discussions focused particularly on joint research projects, academic staff and student mobility, and the organization of collaborative scientific events. It is expected that this meeting will lay the groundwork for concrete cooperation initiatives and further strengthen the academic ties between the two institutions.
